Website:

Callie Schweitzer

  • simplistic but very professional
  • easy to navigate through
  • bland color scheme
  • gets the job done and isn't too overwhelming

  • clean cut but very boring
  • I liked how the resume stood out
  • I did not like how you had to click on all these different links in order to see her work
  • There were not images on any of the pages and I wish she would've included that

  • overwhelming at first with how much content is thrown at you
  • I liked how he added his social media in the website
  • I also really liked the color scheme

Pinterest Board

 This is my Pinterest board.

Black Mirror

After reading both articles, the Daily Mail article really stood out to me. In this article it talked about how the Black Mirror episode "Nosedive" could possible become a reality. For example, in the article it talks about how "completing community service" and buying various products could up your social standing. If you up your social standing by this then you are offered rewards such as VIP treatment at the airport, waived deposits and even discounted loans. In the article it also states that your score can go down by indulging in things that the "government doesn't approve of". If you have a low social score than you can be prohibited from the best jobs, cut off from internet, and even blocked from sending your children to the best schools. This article wraps it up by saying that this will be the future in China. They are already underway with trying to push this system forward. I think that after watching this show and reading these articles that I will be more conscious of what I post on social media. I normally think before I post but I will be extra aware from now on. Social Media presence is important to me but I am not going to throw away everything over a bad post. I feel like after reading this information that I will do more to clean ip my personal branding and how I am perceived on social media.

Magazine Cover

The magazine cover I decided to remake was one from WIRED. This magazine cover focuses on the space age. I used a stock image that I got for free from my adobe photoshop application. After that I uploaded mu photo in Adobe Illustrator. Once the photo was uploaded then I used the rectangle tool too make boxes and the circle. Lastly, I used the text box tool and filled in the words. This was more challenging than I thought it would be but I think it turned out great!

Redesign AD Project

Milk-Bone AD

The AD that I decided to Redesign is the Milk-Bone dog treat advertisement. This is a company that many of us know because we tend to feed our dogs these treats. This AD is celebrating how they have been the number one dog treat for over the last hundred of years. At the bottom of the AD they offer a coupon where you can get a free box of dog treats. Below this is an image of how I recreated the AD. I did this by going into Adobe Illustrator and started messing around mainly with the font, color, and rectangle tool. Most of everything is hand created by myself besides a few images. The images that I used were located on Pixabay.  All of the images that I used included the two bar codes, and the adorable dog you see. This was a more challenging project to accomplish but surprisingly it came out pretty well!

New Photos

This photo was taken in my kitchen when I was getting breakfast in the morning. I took this on my iPhone and used the grid feature so I could line up the points of interest. The point of interest I lined up was the coffee and the banana so that your attention was pulled there.

This photo was taken in my living room when I started decorating for fall. I lined the points of interest up by crouching down so that I was eye level with the lamp and decorations. I wanted you to pay attention to everything in the photo and not only one thing.

This photo was taken in the locker room. I took this photo horizontally because I tried to use one of the compositional techniques. The technique I used was fill the frame. I did this by getting close to my objects and capturing everything in one frame.

This photo was taken on my porch. The only thing that I did to this photo besides lining up points of interest to the pillow was turn down the brightness. I also turned up the contrast in order for the pillow to pop more and your attention would be drawn there.

Keyboard Cat

Keyboard Cat is by far one of my favorite videos on the internet that quickly turned into a meme. A man named Charlie Schmidt directed it in 1984 but it wasn't until 2007 that a man named Brad O'Farrell produced it. He wanted to bring this video back to life and get the credit that it needed. Once he did this the cat (fatso) became an overnight sensation and an internet meme around the world. This video is all about a cat that is dressed in a t-shirt and looks like it is playing the keyboard. It looks as if the cat is supposed to be doing this and it is not out of the normal. That is what makes the video so funny. This youtube video ended up getting over 50 million views. I think for when the video was shot that it does not have bad quality because this is something that was made awhile ago and you do not expect perfect quality.

Downfall Parody's

Parody's are very interesting things that this generation made very popular. This movie is far from Hitler talking about Covid-19 but this video was created because you could subtitle in your own words and it would still make sense. Even though this looks like the actual script but it is far from it. Hitler's men end up telling him that he has Covid-19 and he gets very upset. It ends up being slightly humorous because you know that is not what they are talking about at all. Altogether, someone saw an opportunity to do something unique and ran with it.

Dire Straits- Money for Nothing

The song Money for Nothing was released in 1985 by a British rock band called the Dire Straits. This ended being the second track on their fifth album that really took storm. I had absolutely no idea what the Dire Straits were and even what this song was. After I turned the song on I figured out that I have heard it before because of the introduction. When really listening to this song, you start to realize that there is a bigger meaning to it.

For example, in the song it says "look at them yo-yos, that's the way you do it. You play the guitar on MTV. This lyric is trying to allude to a bigger meaning. When doing research about this song, I figured out that these rock stars ended up writing this song about an encounter that they had when being in a New York Department store. They ended up overhearing a delivery man complain about his job while he was watching MTV. As you can tell the video is shot with animations and it does look like an earlier video that would be on MTV. Altogether, I think that they did a really good job with the music video for when it came out!

Letters:

Writing letters is very uncommon to me since I have never written one. I think that in this day and age that we do everything digital. I would have liked to grow up in the age of writing letters because I think that it is more meaningful than sending a two second text message. I think that by doing everything over the phone screen that we are starting to lose how to do simple skills like writing letters.

Everything Science Knows About Reading on Screens

In this article it discusses how reading on screens can affect us. A study shows that people who read information on paper will be less distracted. They found this out because when people read info on screens, they suffered because they could not comprehend properly. This article also spoke about nonlinear reading. The author talks about how reading on screen most often uses a nonlinear type of format. By using this format it is hard for them to focus on deep reading. Altogether, reading on paper is more beneficial than reading on a screen. I feel like it is a better way to absorb the knowledge.

This article discusses how everything is changing from print to pixel. It goes on to discuss how times are changing and what to expect. It talks briefly about how print was used for a contemplative way of thinking. Then, it goes on to talk about why screen reading is beneficial because it encourages more utilitarian ways of thinking. In this article it highlights why pixel reading is not so bad.
